Don't Tell Me You Didn't Expect Something Like This in a Siberian Tiger Park

One of the more exotic attractions in Haerbin is the Siberian Tiger Park. I have done some research on this facility and some say it could very well be the highlight of a Haerbin trip. We shall see. The problem with the Siberian Tiger Park is its location. It wasn’t very convenient to get to, although there were instructions at the hostel to tell you how to get there. I found the directions rather lacking. Getting there is half the fun, so they say. The bus ride to the park requires me to make several bus transfer. This got me rather anxious as it would be the first time I would be going to this place. I took note of the bus numbers and where to get off then off I went.

The bus took me north of the Songhua River and it showed me how much of Haerbin was developing. There were huge new areas built with condominiums and office buildings. It wasn’t clear to me whether the local economy can support that kind of capacity. We then got into a highway which was practically no man’s land although there were a few buildings but there wasn’t really anything of note there. I actually missed my stop and as I have mentioned, bus stops in China are quite far apart, it is big country, so I had to take another bus back to the correct stop. From there I needed to walk to the nearest intersection at take another bus to the tiger park. Unfortunately, I went the wrong direction and got off and finally got on the right bus.

The bus doesn’t really bring you directly to the tiger park but drops you off at the mouth of the road which leads to the park. Fortunately for me, it was only a twenty minute walk. There were no taxis nor buses here. So I had to brave the cold and hope that I was going the right direction. In the end, it was all correct as I was greeted by the entrance gate to the park. I hope all that trouble getting here was worth it.
