The Church of Saint Barbara at Kutná Hora is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites in the city. It is known as a great example of Gothic architecture and it was built as a rival to the Cathedral of Saint Vitus in Prague. Kutná Hora made its fortune in silver mining and it was thought to build a magnificent church to show off their wealth. For whatever reasons, the church ended up being smaller than the Cathedral of Saint Vitus in Prague. However, that doesn’t mean that the church didn’t look good, it is a prime example of gothic architecture would inspire churches elsewhere.

This won’t be my first time visiting a gothic church and I can’t say that the design of the church is one of the best that I have seen. I know that it is impressive but it would be hard to say that this or that is better than the other. From the outside, I was already very impressed with it and I can’t wait to see the interior. Surprisingly, the inside of the church was brighter than expected. I get this impression of gothic churches being dark with lights strategically placed around the church to give that sense of divine majesty. There are large windows near the top of the church and even though it was already late afternoon and it was cloudy, there was still enough light to keep the church from being that dark.
