We were slowly making our way back to Prague. We were planning to stay there for a few days starting that night but along the way, we have one last stop to go to before finally going to the big city – Kutná Hora. This is yet another host to a UNESCO World Heritage site, and I haven’t heard of this place either, however, compared to the previous stop, this one would be much easier to appreciate. Kutná Hora made its fortune from silver mining. As a result, it was able to build several beautiful monuments. Some of these monuments are now part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing. Unfortunately for us, we won’t have time to visit all of them since it was getting late in the afternoon, after all, we still have to go to Prague that evening. We decided that we just visit what is probably the most important monument here in the city – the Church of Saint Barbara.

It is probably not a coincidence that Saint Barbara is also the patron saint of miners, given Kutná Hora’s history with silver mining. The Church of Saint Barbara is a magnificent gothic monument in the old city of Kutná Hora. We made our way there to the church but ran into a little difficulty with parking, since there was an unexpectedly large number of vehicles parked there. Obviously, the church is also a major tourist attraction and a lot of people go there. We lucked out and managed to get a parking slot right in front of the church. The parking area is actually on a elevated area, this allows us to get great views of the church itself. There is also a flight of stairs to left visitors go down to access the church.
