Charles Square in Třebíč
Charles Square in Třebíč

We were actually done visiting the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Třebíč. It was actually a good walk from the town square to the old quarter and then through the Jewish Quarter. I wasn’t really impressed with what I saw and I suspect my friends weren’t impressed either. We got our daily walk in anyway, so that it still a win for us. From the Jewish Quarter, we crossed the Jihlava River to end up back at the town square. Speaking of which, I was rather curious about the town square itself. It is obvious that this should be the center of activity of the entire town but it was awfully quiet here. I had a look at Google Maps and it showed an old satellite image of the square which was under massive construction. Is this really that old?

It actually is. The square officially named Karlovo Náměstí or Charles Square is named after King Charles IV and was also Holy Roman Emperor. The square bears some similarity to the square we visited in Telč but that one was much more attractive. This square here felt stale. I guess part of the problem was the it was already late afternoon and the lighting wasn’t that good anymore compared to that same morning. True enough, Charles Square was recently renovated. We can see that there are stalls at the square itself. I assume that these would be populated more when the weather is warmer. For now, they are all empty. I thought it would have been nice to have some food here at the square but none of the stalls were operating at the time of our visit.
