Rivers are very important in the rise of settlements all over the world. Europe has several important rivers and Czechia also has one. The Erbe River might not ring a bell to most people and it didn’t to me but it is one of the major river in this part of Europe. The Vltava River is a tributary of the Erbe River which flows from the south of the country all the way to Prague and slightly beyond where it merges wit the Erbe River. For long periods in its history, the River Vltava was a major mode of transportation. These days there are dams in the way. Still there will be sections of the river which are still navigable.

The Vltava River is the lifeblood of Český Krumlov. The town was built on a bend of the Vltava River, which provides a natural defense against invaders. Most of the old medieval town is built here and it looks very picturesque with the river in it. The river also is the center of activity in the medieval town. In the summer, there are activities like kayaking but not in the winter. There are several restaurants which front the river and I thought it was a great spot to eat. Perhaps we would be able to find a place in town which has a riverside view. Though, by night time, it would be dark and we won’t see the river anyway.
