The Castel San Pietro is an old fortress that sits on top of a small hill just outside the old Verona city center. It has a great location beside the River Adige. I was advised by a friendly local stall owner that this would be great of sunset photos and I obliged. While there is a funicular to go up the hill, I decided to go via the stairs. It wasn’t a long climb but of course I was in such great physical shape that I was already huffing and puffing by the time I go to the top. By the time I got to the top, there were already a lot of people waiting for the sun to go down.

Before that happens, there is still a view of the city of Veron from Castel San Pietro. The hill is of good enough height and Verona itself is flat enough that you can already see a lot from this hill. What is nice is that the River Adige runs right past the old city center so you inevitably include the river in the photos. To the left, one can see the river as it goes downstream. Also worth nothing here are the bridges which cross the river. I was at one of these bridges earlier in the day as well. Unfortunately, there was a huge crane that would be in the photos. Maybe I won’t see it when the sun goes down. To the right, you can see the bend of the River Adige as well as the Ponte Pietra. This is one of the iconic sights in the city and I was glad that the weather was good enough for photos.
