I was quickly going through the Palazzo Maffei museum in the city of Verona when I suddenly found myself outside. The visitors’ trail goes to the roofdeck and outside. From here visitors have a great view of the nearby Piazza delle Erbe. The very reason why I was here at the Palazzo Maffei was that I wanted to get away from the crowd of shoppers at the market square. Besides, it was hard to appreciate the square with all the stalls at the square blocking the way. At least from a higher vantage point, there was little to block the view.

The roof deck of the Palazzo Maffei also gives you a chance to get a closer look at the statues which top the palazzo itself. This is going with the baroque design of the building. I imagined that the statues would be of saints and other religious figures but it turns out that these were statues of Greek gods. The statues were all facing the square so it was still hard to see what they look like, but at least you can see them much better than you can from down below. I thought that this would be a great place to wait for the sun to go down but it was still early in the day and I still have a lot more places to visit.
