Outside the Loggia Valmarana in Vicenza

The name Valmarana seems to come up quite often when talking about the works of Andrea Palladio, one of the greatest architects of our time. The family is a avid patron of Palladio and they commissioned him to work on various structures. Several of them are actually in the city of Vicenza. I was making my way through the works of Andrea Palladio in the city of Vicenza which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. I have already seen some of the work Palladio has done for the Valamaranas and I think I get why they keep going back to him. I was making my way to the next one on my list of Palladio designed structures and this one is also for the someone in the Valmarana family.

The Loggia Valamara is another of these structures but unlike the other structures, the Loggia Valmaran was built after Andrea Palladio passed away. The Loggia Valmarana is part of the Salvi Park which I didn’t bother going to. I can see the Loggia Valmarana quite easily from the outside. It has a striking location by a small river. The structure features a typical Palladio designed structure with a loggia or open gallery with six columns. This was meant to be a place for academics to meet and exchange ideas.
