Choir at the Lombard Temple in Monastery of Santa Maria in Valle

I was disappointed that the supposedly Lombard Temple which is more than a thousand years old turned out to look way more modern than I expected. I wasn’t sure if I was just in the wrong place or it was really renovated until it looks modern. One part of the church was piquing my curiosity since it is all boarded up and obviously under maintenance. There was an image of what it is supposed to look like but that it no good if you can’t see what is behind all the construction. There wasn’t much I can do here anywhere so I might as well continue.

Right in front of the maintenance site, was something that looked out of place here in the church. Okay, it isn’t out of place in a church, but it is out of place in this particular church. There was a choir area which looks like it was made from the original materials. The seats and even the music stands were all in very good condition, maybe too good. It does look very old though but I wonder how much of this is actually original. It is off limits to go inside the choir, which tells me that it is old enough that it deserves protection. I have seen a lot of these choirs and they all look the same. One thing is for sure, they don’t look comfortable at all. I can’t imagine having to stay here for a entire duration of a service.
