I got out of the city of Palmanova early and arrived at the nearby town of Cividale del Friuli which is another historical town in the north eastern region of Italy. I should not be surprised at this anymore since Italy has a very long history. Like the city of Aquileia, Cividale del Friuli used to be a very important city. These days it is more known for its sights and naturally has a lot of tourists. To know more about Cividale del Friuli, one would need to know more about it’s history, in particular, the Lombards or Longobards.

The Lombards are a Germanic people who invaded Italy in the 500s. They were successful enough to occupy this region of Italy for a few centuries. There are actually physical remnants of the Lombards that can be seen here and it is actually one of the reasons what I came to this town. For now, I will be going around the old town center and it seems to be a delightful area. The town center looks like it is very well preserved and there are numerous alleyways which are great to see. I know that there will be a lot of these types of places here but I hope to see what makes this place unique.
