Pre Dinner Drink at Bar Pasticceria Soraru in Palmanova

The presepe or nativity scene at the Cathedral of Palmanova was a pleasant surprise to a rather dull visit to the cathedral. The detail and care given to the nativity scene was incredible and I was glad that I just randomly followed a sign which ultimately pointed to that. By the time I was done, it was already dark. It was December and the days are shorter. It wasn’t dinner time yet so I have an hour to spare. I decided to go around the city looking for somewhere I could sit and I ended up at a small bar called Pasticceria Soraru. This place felt more like a local bar where people would meet up and chat. A lot of the people seemed to know each other and it was very lively place.

I thought I should start early and got myself an Italian specialty called negroni. This is a cocktail of three drinks and it is meant to be drank before a meal. This is perfect since I was getting ready to have dinner. I had negroni before and honestly, it is something that takes a little getting used to. I had it often enough that I don’t mind its bitter flavor, which seems to be an Italian thing. Also, the amount of the negroni itself was more than I expected. I ended up feeling it already even when I haven’t even finished the entire glass. Or maybe it is just because I haven’t eaten yet. It was very good glass of negroni and it even came with the bowl of chips and olives. As for the negroni, I thought it was pretty good. I didn’t feel as bitter. Perhaps they used slightly different ingredients or ratios, it was a shame since I wasn’t able to watch them make it. I don’t normally drink at home but since I am on vacation, I want to be able to try the local stuff. As they say, when in Rome…
