I don’t do any sponsorships here nor is this site anywhere popular enough to do a sponsorship but sometimes I would see something which would be worth mentioning. Usually it would be restaurants that I been to but in this case it would be something different. I was walking along Las Vegas Boulevard and just admiring the establishments here. One of these establishments was actually one which doesn’t have a shop. There was a vehicle of some sorts which I have never seen before. There were people talking about it and I got curious.

This was the Zoox. Zoox is an Amazon subsidiary and their take on autonomous public transport. Looking at the unique vehicle, there was no steering wheel, and it became clear to be me that this was meant to be an autonomous vehicle. I have never seen one of these before and it was interesting to say the least. The vehicle looks more like a small van. There are two rows of seats inside which face each other. It certainly evokes images of a futuristic golf cart. It seems that Zoox has recently gotten permission to operate robotaxis here in Las Vegas, or at least parts of it. The vehicle is question wasn’t in use but more to promote it. Like similar robotaxis, the design of the vehicle is meant to be more approachable to people. I know that people may have apprehensions about this new technology, so it is best to design the vehicles in a friendlier way.

I know that some brands of robotaxis have logged millions of miles without an accident I still have reservations riding one of these. They can only improve over time and will probably become ubiquitous. Any accidents which involve any robotaxis tend to be overblown compared to their human caused counterparts. I like the idea of not having to deal with an annoying driver to get around an unfamiliar city but I think for now, I would prefer to take either public transportation or just drive myself.
