While I didn’t really plan much for my visit to Las Vegas since all I was thinking that I need to eat what I needed to eat before I go home, I still managed to see some new developments since I last visited. I think the most prominent one that I saw is The Sphere Las Vegas. True to its name, the Sphere Las Vegas is a massive spherical building which is the largest in the world. Apart from it’s unconventional shape for a building, the most prominent feature of The Sphere is the giant LED screen which covers the entire building. At the time of its launch, the screen was also considered to be the largest in the world. The fact that they say it that way means that it was most probably already surpassed.

Still a spherical screen is not easy to design for. Nor it is easy to make displays for. It is so different from standard two dimensional screen that one would need special software to be able to control a display like that. I didn’t get to go in the Sphere and I was left wondering what it actually was. I didn’t seem to be a hotel. It turned out that it was an entertainment area. Think concerts, or special screening of movies. Yes, inside the Sphere is another very large LED screen. Despite what I imagined, the seating only faces one direction and it it not circular. I think it would be difficult to perform in, or even appreciate a concert if the audience is all around you. Then again, it would be a very unique venue to perform in which would require specific performances which can only be done in The Sphere.
