Green River from the Overlook in Canyonlands National Park
Green River from the Overlook in Canyonlands National Park

If it wasn’t obvious what is there to see in Canyonlands National Park, it would be very obvious ones you start your visit. I entered the park through the Island in the Sky entrance, that would be the north entrance. There is a driving route that takes you through the park or at least part of it. Virtually all of the pullouts here were for looking at vast canyons that were carved out by the river. The river in question here is the Green River. There is one stop here where you look over the work done by the Green River.

The viewpoint is on a ledge which overlooks one the canyons here. The river is actually quite far away but fortunately, I got a telephoto lens to take care of that. However, even with that, I can still only just barely see the river. I can see the bend of the river and only a bit of the water but that was it. There are ways to get to the river but that would be for the more adventurous visitors. There are dirt roads where you can take a four wheel drive and rough it out. I have seen photos of the road and some of them are really very rough. I’m surprised they even allow vehicles on these. Still, I think it is an exciting activity but visitors doing this would need to be prepared and self sufficient since it just so remote.
