The Avondale Forest Park is quite large and apart from the entrance gate which we went through, I don’t know how far it actually goes. The Avondale Forest Park Viewing Tower is the tallest structure in the entire forest park. It is a unique design by Josef Stöger and it is one of several similar looking structures in the world. As you can see the tower is meant to be climbed, so climb it we did. The gradient of the wooden walkway is very gentle that you don’t really notice that you are going up that much. The walkway winds its way inside the tower and gradually goes up.

As you might expect, the entire top level of the tower is a viewing area, allowing visitors expansive views of the surrounding area. Unfortunately, this area isn’t really very mountainous and there were not a lot of interesting features to see from the top. If you like trees and green fields, this is the place to go to. I would have wanted to see some mountains but there aren’t really a lot of those in this area. Still a boring view is better than no view at all. It isn’t very common that you get go beyond the tree tops and the Avondale Forest Park Viewing Tower is the best place to do that here.
