I went to Dublin with two other families for several nights. Primarily because of cost issues, I decided to stay at a bed and breakfast rather than staying at a full blown hotel which I would only sleep in. I know they offered to make sleeping arrangements to accommodate me which I really appreciate but ultimately, it didn’t sit right with me that I would interfere with the families sleeping arrangements just to accommodate me. I had a car with me so I can still drive to and fro wherever we needed to meet up in. It turned out that the bed and breakfast I was staying at has a nice location and I thought it was great to walk around in.
I have been in this part of Dublin city before and I guess compared to the grittier parts of the city that I have been too, this part is very nice. The centerpiece of this area is the Grand Canal. The banks of the canal have been fixed up and there are lots of greenery here. The canal’s waters are also very calm because the canal is protected by locks which control the flow of water. I always wondered what those were for but they were meant to maintain water levels and also allows boats to travel upstream. Sort of a lift for boats. There are also aquatic birds swimming on the water and if you are lucky, you might even see elegant swan. I always thought that Dublin isn’t a very nice place to live in since I keep going to the not so nice places of the city but it is great to know that there are actually nicer parts to live in.
