We arrived mid-afternoon in the city of Třebíč and I figured that we still have time to go around the city. Our main destination is the old quarter where parts of it are UNESCO World Heritage sites. We left the car near the hotel and we were just walking to the site. What I didn’t realize was that the area was a bit hilly, which made it a little challenging for us to explore. It wasn’t so bad that we were exhausted, but there could have been a smarter way of doing this. Our first stop is the Basilica of Saint Procopius. Saint Procopius is considered to be one of the most important saints in Bohemia as well as the rest of the Czech Republic.

Saint Procopius lived before this church was ever built. There used to be a small chapel on this site which was also dedicated to Saint Procopius as well as a Benedictine monastery. Over the years the monastery grew and it became quite wealthy and powerful. Because of this, they were able to improve on the monastery and eventually built a full sized basilica. You can see how impressive this basilica is. Unfortunately, for us, we were unable to get in the basilica. The main entrance was closed but there was an open door to the side of the basilica. However, there is a gate which would only allow us to have a look inside. It was dark and hard to see inside but using the power of technology, my camera was able to take photos of the inside.
