I was puzzled by the presence of a stone circle in a field in Holašovice. From my understanding, stone circles are something which are more common in Northern Europe with Great Britain and Ireland having several examples of these. The stone circle there are usually for time keeping as well as being a place of mystery. It turns out that the stone circle here in Holašovice is just a recreation. It is said that the stone circle will focus cosmic energies on whoever is inside the circle, provided they are sensitive to it. I don’t think I am sensitive to these things. I went in and I didn’t feel any different. Maybe I just wanted in the correct frame of mind to notice it, who knows.

Not too far away from the stone circle is an overlook. It wasn’t very high up but it was still higher that any other place here. We had to go behind it to make our way there. On the way, we discovered another megalithic structure. This one is composed of two standing stones with a third one laid on top of the two. It is like single slice of Stonehenge. While I was fascinated by it, I think it is another one of those reconstructions. Indeed, not too far away is a small construction area and it it appears like more stones a being manufactured.

The overlook wasn’t really that high up but it was still good enough to see the stone circle in its entirety. I still can’t make heads or tails about why they would build something like that. I am sure they have enough local stories to come up with their own figures. Whatever the reason, I don’t think I will ever find out. We took our photos from the overlook and finally made our way back to the village green.
