Honestly, it was hard for me to get excited about Holašovice. One would need a to dig into the stories of the village to understand why it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage sites list. It is the best preserved example of an eighteenth to nineteenth century central European village. The structures are all amazingly well preserved, they almost look brand new. All in all everything here is just around the village green. Speaking of which there is a small pond here with another structure beside it. Apparently, it is a colonial goods store. I think term came from back when there were still colonies and these colonial stores will specialize in goods from these colonies like coffee or tea.

As you can imagine, it sounds like a modern day ethnic goods store, like a modern day Chinese or Indian grocery store. Naturally, these kind of specialty good stores soon went away the easier it was to get these specialty goods. These days, there is a recreation of the store but I wasn’t able to get in because it was closed. There are seats in front of the store where visitors can sit by the pond and watch the day pass. I can imagine how the store can be the center of activity in the village. I actually thought it was a visitor center but I guess that would have been the closest thing to a visitor center back in the day.
