Farmhouses at Holašovice

The tiny village of Holašovice is our next destination in our tour of Czechia or the Czech Republic. It is only thirty minutes away from Český Krumlov and it might be a good day tour if you are already in the area. Oh, did I mention it is tiny? There is the main village green and it is surrounded by farm houses. All of these combine to make Holašovice an excellent example of a central European village from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Looking at the structures that are around the village green, they do seem to be very well preserved, almost too well.

The buildings here are in almost pristine condition and it is hard to believe they date back to what they say they do. There are dates displayed on the facades of the buildings and it is fascinating to see how old they are. Most of these buildings around the village green are farm houses. Some of them are even open for visits. There would be these old style water pumps outside the farm houses and they actually work. At the time of our visit, there seemed to be only a handful of people there and it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. I don’t know how popular Holašovice is during the summer, but if you are already in the area, you might want to give this place visit.
