One of the most important places to visit here in the medieval town of Český Krumlov is the Český Krumlov Castle. The castle towers above the rest of the town and at the same time provides some sort of fortification for the town. I thought it was different to have the castle act as the main defense as usually they would be found behind walls. In this case, the castle is part of the wall. These days, castles like these are usually open for visits and we were making our way to the castle to have a look. However, it seems that we were already a little late in going there as there was only an hour left to visit the castle. We gave up on going but we later found out that visitors are free to explore the rest of the grounds.

So that is what we did, we followed the main trail to the castle to see where it leads. We see that the trail kept going up and we knew that this was because the castle walls were that high up. There would also be breaks in the wall where you can see the old town below. Seeing the view from here was a little challenging because there was a setting sun in the way. In particular, I wanted to have a look at the walls themselves but I was running against direct sunlight which made it tough to see. The sun however lit up the town quite nicely. The red roofs of the town show up brilliantly in the sunlight giving you that fairy tale town look.
