Most old cities or towns around the world would have been built around a body of water. It would usually be a river to have access to fresh water. This is the case for various European cities and towns. Český Krumlov in Czechia is one of these old towns. The town of Český Krumlov was built on a bend of the river Vltava. If you look at the map, you can see that the bend of the river is so extreme that it could have almost cut off town and formed an island. I thought that this made for a natural defense against invaders since it would have been a challenge to cross the river at that time. These days, visitors can just cross the bridge to cross the river.

You can see that the river is fairly wide. Just beyond the banks of the river are very high walls which form part of the castle. I thought it was a bit different to see that the castle itself would form part of the defense, since it is usually the castle being protected. Coming from the north entrance, the castle would be one of the first things visitors would see. Crossing the river, visitors can see how high these walls are, almost absurdly high. It looks like it is possible to visit the castle and I would like to have a look at it. Hopefully, my friends would be willing to have a look.
