My friends and were visiting Czechia for several days. We got a rental car and drove from the city of Prague to the South Bohemian town of Český Krumlov, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We got there early afternoon and we were trying to orient ourselves. Apparently, it is not possible to drive all the way in to the old town. There are several parking areas outside the old town, and visitors would need to walk from there. I was worried that we would have to walk far to get there but it seems that town isn’t that large and it can be easily explored on foot. One thing to note was that the streets have cobblestones and it would be challenging to drag a suitcase over these cobblestones. I had another backpack with me, so this wasn’t a problem. My friends struggled with their suitcases while I was merrily walking ahead of them.

Český Krumlov is an old medieval town built within the bend of the river Vltava. It is almost an island formed by this bend and it serves as a natural defense against invaders. There also used to be large walls here and large parts of the walls have been preserved. One of the first things you would see entering Český Krumlov is a bridge which crosses a gap between the walls. It looks a lot like an aqueduct but it is simply a bridge. The walls of the city are very imposing and certainly taller than most city walls that I have seen before. Almost as if it was protecting some jewel inside its walls.
