Entering Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
Entering Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

I was at one of the largest public squares in the city of Milan – Piazza del Duomo where the Milan Cathedral is. It was extremely busy, and it feels different to be a huge city like Milan after a few days in the smaller cities. There are several monuments to see here, with the most prominent one being the cathedral. However, the others around the square are no slouches either. There is a royal palace here which I won’t be able to visit anymore because of time constraints. But there is also another one which is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. If you don’t know what this place is, you have to have seen it somewhere.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is Italy’s oldest shopping arcade. It has a glass roof which covers much of the arcade. There are numerous high end shops here of which I could never hope to buy from. Still it is good to be able to pretend that I was shopping around for something here. As you might expect, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is one of the most popular places to go to here in Milan. You can see a stream of people making their way into the arcade. There are multiple exits in the arcade so you can choose which way you go. For now, I will squeeze into the arcade together with the hundreds of people making their way inside. I do wonder, how many people actually shop here.
