Milan Cathedral is the fifth largest church in the world, so you would expect that it would take some time to fully see it. I wasn’t exactly in a hurry anymore since I know that I will be flying out that evening, but at least I would like to be able to see this place and whatever is nearby. The Milan Cathedral is one of the most amazing gothic churches that I have visited. From the outside of the cathedral to the inside it just oozes of gothic-ness. There are fifty two columns which support the cathedral and in between some of them hang large paintings which is the first time I have seen any church display images this way.

One of the features which stood out to me in the cathedral was the baptistry. As the name implies, this is where baptisms happen. The baptistry is kept behind an iron fence but you can see it from the outside. There is a canopy above the baptistry which reminds me of a similar structure in Saint Peter’s Basilica. The roof of the canopy it decorated with images of saints. While the main baptistry looks more like a fancy bathtub. I am not sure if this is still actively use. Back then, one would need to immerse themselves in water. These days most baptisms only pour water on the candidate as part of the ritual.
