I was in awe of the sheer scale of the Milan Cathedral – one of the largest gothic churches in the world. It is already the fifth largest church in the world. The church is supported by fifty two gothic columns. This is one of the classical gothic churches that I have come to think as representative of the architectural style. Because of the sheer size of the church, it doesn’t feel as crowded even if I can clearly see that there are a lot of visitors going around the church. I was going around the church itself and that it when I came across another element which is typical of gothic churches – stained glass windows.

Milan Cathedral is said to have the largest collection of stained glass windows in the world. I don’t know if any of them are the largest but because there are so many of them here, it should count as one of the largest collection in the world. Once again, because of the size of the windows, it can be hard to appreciate the images depicted on the windows. I think most people would only be able to see the ones which are closer to the ground. The ones on top would probably need binoculars to see clearly. It was a shame that the sun wasn’t shining that day. I would have loved to see the sun shine through one these windows as I would certainly give everyone a spectacular light show.
