Walking Up to Castel San Pietro
Walking Up to Castel San Pietro

I found myself making my way to Castel San Pietro, upon the advise of a stall owner in Piazza delle Erbe. Castel San Pietro is on a hill which sort of overlooks the city of Verona. It only sort of overlooks it because there is a river between the hill and the old city of Verona. Hopefully, the hill would be tall enough to give me a nice view of the old city. I notice that there are also a lot of people on the bridge and I suspect that they are also making their way to the Castel San Pietro. There are two ways of making your way up the hill. The first one would be through the use of a funicular and the second one, my choice, is by self power.

I didn’t think the hill was high enough for me to take the funicular. I was hoping that the walk up the hill would give me different views of the city, so up I went. What I didn’t know was there is actually an ancient Roman amphitheater hidden here. I only found out about it after I started looking up the location of the Castel San Pietro as part of writing this post. It was a shame that I didn’t know about this, since it was right under my nose. I don’t know much I would have seen anyone since it was already starting to get dark. I should be content with the Arena Verona since that one is much larger.
