I had a great time visiting the Dolomites in northern Italy, but after that I have been visiting old cities and there isn’t much scenery to see apart from just old buildings. Verona isn’t any different since it is a very old settlement and it have plenty of heritage structures. I do miss the scenery and it turns out that Verona has sometime similar to that. The Castel San Pietro is a hill which overlooks the city of Verona. It sits at the banks of the River Adige and it is actually on the opposite side of the river where the old city center is. To cross the river, there is the Ponte Pietra, a bridge which is considered to be the oldest monument in the city of Verona.

I know Verona is old and guessing what would have been the oldest monument here in the city, I wouldn’t have thought that it would be a bridge. The Ponte Pietra was built in the first century, obviously to cross the river. You can see that this was no easy feat at the time since the river is quite wide. The Romans were able to build a bridge to the other side of the river and it still stands today. No doubt that the bridge has been reinforced and repairs several times over the centuries but the bridge is still here almost two thousand years later.
