Visitors Waiting to Take Photos with the Bronze Statue of Juliet

The Casa di Giiulietta is one of the most well known landmarks in the city of Verona. Honestly, I came here not even knowing of this landmark but I had to run into it one way or another. I was looking at the street signs in the city center of Verona and I noticed one called the Casa di Giulietta. I thought nothing of the name but I decided to go there anyway since it seems that I was already nearby. I was walking along a busy street on the way to the old city center and any excuse to get away from the crowds here would be welcome. Little did I know that I would end up at another busy place for Casa di Giulietta is one of the most famous landmarks in the city.

It took me a while to get it but Casa di Giulietta means Juliet’s House. Who is this Juliet, well, she is none other than Juliet of Romeo and Juliet fame. One might point out that Juliet is just a fictional character from the tragedy written by William Shakespeare. Yes, that it all true. The setting of Romeo and Juliet was in Italy. The family of Juliet, the Capulets were based in, of course, Verona. One thing led to another and somehow this house ended up to be the supposed house of the fictional lady. Indeed the balcony on the second floor help one imagine how Juliet would be on the balcony while Romeo would be right below.

The Casa di Giulietta is now a museum and of course there is an entrance fee for it. I don’t think this visit would take long and I got tickets. Most people outside were taking photos with the bronze statue of Juliet. In the meantime, I got inside and managed to go to the Juliet’s balcony can took photos from there. There is a small queue to take photos at the balcony but it wasn’t that bad. The balcony isn’t that big and it could only handle only a handful of people at a time. Visitors were mostly respectful and even helping taking photos of myself pretending to be Juliet – aka Giulietto.
