I should not be surprised that a cathedral was part of the works of famed architect Andrea Palladio. However, what did surprise me what the the cathedral wasn’t even designed by him. The cathedral was built before he got his hands on it but he did manage to design the dome of the cathedral. It was hard to appreciate the dome since it was so high up. I would just have to take their word for it. Old church are always nice to visit and the Vicenza Cathedral is no exception. The cathedral, also known as the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Annunziata is the largest church in the city and no doubt was also the center of activity in the city.

For a church as large as this cathedral, the interiors weren’t as fancy as I imagined them to be. The design is primarily gothic though it felt bright compared to other gothic churches that I have visited. The influence of the Venetian style is also apparent here in the floor and even the arches of the cathedral. You can see that the church is still in use since it is still very well maintained. Like most cathedrals there are smaller chapels which surround the main church. I will go around the church but I expect this to be a quick visit.
