Looking at the Villa la Rotonda
Looking at the Villa la Rotonda

While I was having my lunch at the Gran Caffe in Vicenza, I was thinking of what to do after lunch. I was thinking that the remaining Palladian sites here in the city of Vicenza would be easy enough for me to visit for the rest of the day but I also found out that there were other Palladian sites outside the city. I had no illusions that I would be able to visit all of them since I no longer have a car this part of the trip. I could take public transportation though and it turns out that there is one Palladian villa which is just outside the city.

Closer Look at the Villa la Rotonda

Villa la Rotonda is a villa designed by Andrea Palladio. It is on the outskirts of the city and it just so happened to be accessible by public bus. There was a bus which goes there from the city gates and I was off. I wanted to go here first because at least I would be able to tick this one off before it gets dark. I was thinking that once I come back from the Villa la Rotonda, I could resume visiting the other Palladian buildings without any pressure to get back before a certain time. The bus doesn’t actually go to the site itself but it stops along the main road and visitors would need to go on foot. It wasn’t a very long walk from the bus stop and it wasnt visible from the road at least from where I was. If you think about it, villas would be a bit more secluded or at least not as accessible so as to give it that air of exclusivity.
