Sandwich at Al Merca in Padova
Sandwich at Al Merca in Padova

I have visited quite a few places in just a short time. It is great that the city center of Padova is very walkable and it was very easy to get from one place to another. It seems that one thing just leads to another and there is always something to see. I was at the Palazzo della Ragione, a medieval town hall in the center of Padova. I was done visiting the upper floor which is known for its splendid frescoes. I head down to the ground floor of the palazzo to have a look around the market hall. It is interesting to know that the market hall here has been in existence for centuries and it is also considered to be one of the oldest in Europe.

There are a lot of stalls which sell food, the type you go to the market for. They sell meat, cheese and pasta. This is obviously catering to the local population and I was extremely interested in what they have here but I can’t buy them since I don’t live here. I decided to take a break in one of the stalls inside the market hall. Al Merca is a small bar tucked inside the narrow aisle of the market hall. This is not a place to do shopping but more for snacks and drinks. I got myself a small sandwich and an Italian cocktail and sat on a stool just people watching. I managed to promptly drop the sandwich on the floor much to my shock. The staff saw it and they quickly replaced it free of charge. It was very embarrassing since I don’t do that very often. I was grateful they decided to just replace it. I know it doesn’t cost much but it was still a nice gesture.
