Inside the Palazzo della Ragione in Padova
Inside the Palazzo della Ragione in Padova

The Palazzo della Ragione in Padova is an excellently preserved town and market hall in the center of Padova. Being the center of the city, the area is very busy especially in December where there is a seasonal market here. I don’t know how busy it gets here the rest of the year but it seems that most of the people in the city are here doing their Christmas shopping. As for me, I was here to see the Palazzo della Ragione as it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing of several structures here in Padova.

The entrance isn’t very obvious. There is a flight of stairs which goes up to the next floor but before that, there is a hidden ticket booth to purchase tickets from. Passing through the gates, one can access the loggia, which is the gallery which can be seen from the outside and finally one can get to the hall inside. It is almost surprising to see how much space there is here inside the Palazzo della Ragione. I know that it is means to be a town hall but I didn’t expect an actual hall this large. It is after all considered to be the largest medieval town hall still in use. The walls of the hall are covered in spectacular frescoes. It is amazing to see how much they took care of this hall.
