I was surprised to end up at yet another museum here in Salzburg. I was originally at the Salzburg Residenz which used to be the residence of the archbishop but apparently the tour included a visit to the neighboring Salzburg Cathedral which also has its own museum. I guess it was good to do that since I was already getting tired of seeing the same rooms over and over. From the looks of it, the cathedral museum isn’t very large since it only occupies part of the cathedral. I can also see that the museum has more religious objects on display here compared to the archbishop residence which also was a surprise to me.

As you might expect the museum interior looks like it is part of a church. However, you might be surprised to know that the museum wasn’t part of the church that long. At least compared to the nearby Salzburg Residenz. The museum is relatively new having only been established in the year 1974. Since it isnt’ that old, the museum doesn’t have a lot of its own artifacts. In fact, a lot of the artifacts on display here are just on loan from various churches. I guess, it is good to have them all in one place since it would be next to impossible for visitors to see all those artifacts separately.
