Morning Along the River Rhine

Morning Along the Rhine at Sankt Goar

When I was younger, I would sometimes read about Germany and of course there will always be the mention of the Rhine river. Even back then, I understood that the Rhine is an important part of the history of Germany. While I never really got the best image of what a river is back then, I never thought that I would be able to visit what is considered as one of the great rivers of the world. It is no surprise that the Rhine is part of the history of several modern countries in Europe. Several major cities in Europe are built on the banks of this river such as Köln and Düsseldorf in Germany, Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Strasbourg in France.

I guess you could forgive me if I imagine the Rhine to be a river by the big cities of Europe but obviously this is not the case. Away from the cities, the Rhine cuts through the European countryside. It is said that the most beautiful scenery along the Rhine would be along this stretch of river, which is in the area of Sankt Goar. I would agree wholeheartedly. The Rhine cuts a gorge and there would be small towns that were built one it’s banks. By this time in the morning, the sun was already up and I can see the full beauty of the river and the valley it created. It is also obvious that the river getting very busy. It is a major transportation artery which includes cargo and even tourist traffic. Truly the importance of the river continues to this day.
