The first thing I knew about what Las Vegas was all about as that it is a place for gambling. I had images of poker tables and slot machines all over the place and there wasn’t much to do here apart from that. Visiting the city has opened my eyes to the possibilities of Las Vegas and you can enjoy without gambling a single cent. I didn’t come here to gamble since I was just using Las Vegas as my base to get to the Grand Canyon. Ultimately, I ended back here just to spend a couple of days going around.

I would never be able to avoid a casino here in Las Vegas even if I tried to. I was at the Wynn Las Vegas and it also has a casino. It is actually along the way to The Buffet where I had my dinner, so there was no avoiding it. No, I still didn’t gamble anyway, but it was still worth a look to see what they have here. I was surprised to know how modern gambling has become. What I imagined to be mechanical slot machines are now basically video game machines except you used them to gamble. Huge displays show digital slot machines and you just press a button to spin. Even card tables have been digitized and you can see ones with virtual card dealers. I don’t think it is there yet but you can see the shift in technology.

While there might be some themes in the different hotels, the casinos here in Las Vegas seem to share something in common. It looks like it is designed to keep you inside. Once I went inside the casino, I immediately got lost and I couldn’t figure out where the exit was. It doesn’t help that the casino floor is huge and that the tables all look the same so you would be hard pressed to find a landmark. There are signs above to help navigate the place but without them, it would be difficult. Additionally, there are no windows here, so you can’t tell the time of day, you won’t realize that you have been gambling for more than a day. I’m not here to criticize gambling but it was just an observation I made when it came to casino design.
