Shafts of Light at the Antelope Slot Canyon

Shaft of Light at Antelope Slot Canyon

The moment I saw photos of Antelope Slot Canyon, I needed to know where it is. I made sure that I allocated enough time to visit the town of Page since this is where Antelope Slot Canyon is. If I only allocated one day to visit Page, and I didn’t get a slot to visit Antelope Slot Canyon, then it would have been all for naught. I made sure that I had enough time to explore this area. I needed to book a tour first, then I can plan whatever after that. Turns out I got a slot on my second day in Page. I think there are several companies which offer tours but I ended up going with Antelope Slot Canyon Tours. Easy enough to remember.

The slot canyon is as amazing as it looks in the photos. The narrow canyon was carved out by running water. Although it looks very dry now, when the rains come, it will come very fast and very heavy. Imagine what happens to water when forced through a narrow crevice, it will quickly fill up the space and take whatever is there with it. Our tour guide makes sure that this will not happen. He is very knowledgeable and you can see he is looking after the enjoyment and satisfaction of his clients. He even set up a scene for one of the most memorable photos in Antelope Slot Canyon – the shaft of light. I was actually surprised that this was all set up. Basically you kick up a lot of dust so that the light coming down from above would appear as shafts of light. Beautiful, but ultimately, scripted. But hey, I will take it any time. I probably wouldn’t have known to do it on my own.
