I needed to leave the Grand Canyon South Rim before evening to make sure that I have time to get to my accommodation for the night. I won’t be staying near the South Rim this time, but I will me making my way to almost the border between Arizona and Utah. The highway was actually quite busy contrary to my expectations. I don’t know if it is because it is summer and there are a lot of travelers moving about or it really is just plain busy here.

While it is very comfortable driving in the rental car despite the blazing heat outside, it is still a rather long drive, especially to a place which you have never been too. The satnav says it is only two hours away but it felt much further than that. I wasn’t as tired as I was the previous day, thanks to the rest I got that night. I made sure to leave earlier so I won’t get tired while I will be driving. On the way, I was keeping an eye on the outside temperature. I watched it warily as the temperature climbed to the hundreds in Fahrenheit which I know now is very hot and then some more. It was still afternoon so the temperature wasn’t going down anytime soon. Along the way, I looked at how there seems to be a lot of rubber strips along the highway. I think these are all from tire blowouts and I dread to think what I would do if something like that happened to me.

It was pleasant driving all the way, the temperature didn’t go down at all though. I soon was driving in to the town of Page in Arizona. It is basically a town in the middle of the desert. I believe it only came into existence because of the nearby Lake Powell. Unsurprisingly, there is a tourist industry which sprang up in the middle of the desert. I would see vehicles hauling boats, which I thought was a bizarre site to see in the desert. There is of course a place to use these boats and I thought it would be interesting to see them.

First thing’s first, I needed to check in to my accommodations. I booked several nights at the Lake Powell Canyon Inn in the middle of town. It was affordable and it has a pool! The inn has a strange layout as the units were all accessible from the outside. While nothing untoward happened, it just feels strange that people can just walk up to your unit anytime. The room has air-conditioning which is a must in this desert environment. In the morning, you can see the sun shine through your door. I almost dread having to walk out of the door because I know it was going to be hot. I think as long as you leave early or late enough in the day, it should be okay.

I actually “lost” my physical key. It was an actual key and not one of those card keys which you can easily replace. I was told that I needed to pay to replace the door knob because they didn’t have a spare. They only had a skeleton key. The staff was gracious enough to help open the door for me each time I needed to go in. I eventually found the key under the car seat so I didn’t need to pay any fifty dollars for the replacement. Thank you to the staff for their patience!

Lake Powell Canyon Inn is a pleasant place to stay in Page, Arizona, It is affordable and because of the size of the town, it is very accessible to most places in town. There are a number of hotels in the area but I thought this was good enough for my needs. You can also dip in the pool if you feel too warm in the desert. The pool was a bit too busy for my liking though but your mileage may vary. I wholeheartedly recommend Lake Powell Canyon Inn.
