I have spent the last few days with my colleagues doing all sorts of activities. We were actually well taken cared of. There was always food around and even after hours, we would be brought out to lunch. This is nice because it helps us bond as a team together even if we don’t belong to the same office. Most of the time, we would be brought to somewhere safe to eat. What I mean by safe is that it would be a place where the vast majority of people would be able to eat. This means, there won’t be any strange food this time.

I was actually kind of craving for a different cuisine in Boston. Of course, I already had the seafood and the steaks but I also want to try other cuisines. It probably is obvious that I am a huge fan of Chinese food and I like to try out new ones especially if you can see a lot of people eating there. Like any other large American city, Boston also has a Chinatown. As you would expect, there is a large collection of Chinese restaurants here. I was recommended the Gourmet China House. With a name like that, it better be good.

From the name alone, it would tell you that they don’t specialize in any type of Chinese regional cuisine. It was somewhat of a disappointment to know because I imagine that they would be a more generic type of restaurant if they don’t specialize in anything. I went there with a colleague who has never been there either. I was given a list of food to try but my colleague was surprisingly picky about certain stuff too. Oh well, I discarded the list and I just picked whatever I wanted as well what my colleague can eat.

The first item that caught my eye was the xiaolongbao. I always make it a point to eat this whenever I get the chance. Their version here is nice and juicy just how I like it. Another regular dish for me is the dry fried crispy pork intestines. Probably not as nice as others I had before, this will very much do in this case. Although the restaurant doesn’t specialize in Sichuan cuisine, I thought they did a good job here. Finally, the last dish was something which I just saw on the wall. This is ginger chicken. The boiled chicken is smothered in ground ginger giving it a very fragrant smell. I believe I had this in Hong Kong and I thought it was quite nice.

That is a lot for just two people. Fortunately, my colleague also has a huge appetite and I made sure that I didn’t eat too much that lunch. It turned out to be much more expensive than I anticipated but I just chalked it up to experience. I would love to try the recommended dishes someday perhaps I would get another chance to come here. I will make sure to drop by here again. Be aware though that there is a very similarly named place with the names interchanged. I do not know if that other one is any good but Gourmet China House is the one I went to.
