Place Stanislas

I think that Europe has a lot of magnificent squares. There are usually several buildings which surround them and they are very attractive. The problem with these squares is that there is also a lot of nothing here. The square itself tends to be empty so there is little to nothing to photograph here. The Place Stanislas in Nancy is no different. The square is surrounded by several stunning gates. It also has two fountains which are also beautiful but just like all squares, they tend to be empty. It was December when I visited Nancy and there saw a big Christmas tree here but the tree tended to look small because the square was so large.

There are several buildings which surround Place Stanislas. The one nearest the Fountain of Amphritite is the Opéra National de Lorraine, that probably doesn’t need any translation. This theater wasn’t part of the original buildings which were ordered built by former king Stanislas. The original theater burned down and later was relocated to its current place in Place Stanislas. I tried but it doesn’t seem that that it is open to visitors. This is a shame since these places tend to be very beautiful inside. I can only take photos outside and as you can see, the weather isn’t that great either.
