Astronomical Clock at the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Strasbourg

The massive Cathedral of Notre Dame de Strasbourg is certainly very impressive. It is probably the tallest structure in the entire city and of course it is its number one landmark. The inside of the cathedral is also typical of gothic churches. The high ceilings give an impression of size to the entire structure. The statues and tapestries around the cathedral also gives it a character than I haven’t seen elsewhere. However, one of the most interesting features of the cathedral is the astronomical clock which found on one end of transept of the church. It is easy to find because you will see people gathering around it.

The astronomical clock is a marvel of engineering. It naturally shows the time but it also shows the day of the week, the phases of the moon, and even the zodiac. There are figures which go around the clock as time moves on. This is all amazing to see since I can’t even imagine how to build something like that. I would only take a look at my phone to get the time but it was so much more complex back then. I would probably make something which runs every twenty fours hours but this clock is more accurate than that. I have seen another astronomical clock in the city of Lyon and it is just as amazing.
