Gare d’Épernay

Gare d’Épernay

I found it very stress free to travel by train in France. I was going to the champagne capital of the world Épernay by train and I fell asleep along the way. There was no danger of overshooting the destination, this Épernay would be the terminating station. It also helps that the trains are never even close to full which is great if you are just touring around here. I believe the long distance trains tend to be packed but regional ones are a pleasure to ride. It is almost like riding the bus. I probably should have expected this, but it seems that Épernay has a cooler climate compared to Reims. It was muggier which helps the grapes grow the optimal way.

Arrival at Épernay

Considering that Épernay is the champagne capital of the world, I was surprised not to see too many tourists here. Granted, it was actually a Sunday, so maybe there was no point to go to Épernay on a Sunday, a fact I never considered. Hopefully, this would not be problem. The train station of Épernay was small and pleasant but nothing like the one at Reims. Considering it’s importance in champagne making, I thought that they would have a fancier train station for this place. I was checking Google maps, and I can see that the town isn’t that large. The interesting places are within walking distance of each other. In fact, you can say that most of the important places are along just a single street.
