Traveling on the Skellig Ring

Coastal Scenery at the Skellig Ring

I originally planned on just revisiting the Ring of Kerry, which I have done a few years ago. However, I stumbled into the Skellig Ring which is a smaller ring around the village of Portsalon. Having said that, the ring isn’t really that small since it still covers quite a bit of land. The ring is named after the famed Skellig islands which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, unfortunately, these days, it is more known as the home of Luke Skywalker. I would have wanted to visit the island before the movie but I didn’t have the chance to. These days, it is more difficult to get bookings for the island because of the publicity the movie generated for it.

Beautiful Scenery Driving Along the Skellig Ring

I visited Coomanaspic Pass for some gorgeous views of the the ocean, mountains and valleys below. But I needed to make haste as the sun is already going down and I don’t want to be driving in unfamiliar roads in the dark. Coomanaspic is on a mountain road but from here on, it was all going to be down hill. The roads here can be quite steep as well as zigzagging down the mountain. One needs to be careful driving here since the beautiful coastal scenery can be very distracting. I envy some of the houses here which have great views of the scenery. It would probably be cool to have a place like that.
