Looking to Lake Muckross
The Muckross House in Killarney National Park is one of the most well known landmarks in the country. I’m not exactly sure I understand why it deserves sure recognition since it is just a mansion on the shores of a lake. It is within Ireland’s first national park and I think the national park is still better than any house here. I didn’t really get to find out what makes the house so special since it was closed. Initially, I thought that I just arrived late but I went back another day and it was still closed. Maybe this it was closed for renovations. The gardens of Muckross House is still open so people can still go. However, keep in mind that the main gate to the park can close so best to be aware of the times.
On the Shores of Lake Muckross
Killarney National Park spans around a hundred kilometers square, so it is a pretty large park. It is pretty much a given that you won’t be able to explore this park in an afternoon. I don’t intend to explore the entire park. There are numerous trails here but would probably just go near the lake. The Muckross House sits in front of the Muckross Lake. If you look at the map, it is actually in between two lakes, the other being Lake Leane. Killarney National Park is also known for its wildlife, so if you have a telephoto lens, this would be a good place take photos. It was towards the end of winter when I visited, I’m not sure how many animals would already be out. I hope I would be able to see some of the larger fauna.
