Going to Lough Acorrymore

I was very happy to see Keem Beach. It is as beautiful as they said it would be. It is hidden away in the westernmost part of Achill Island and it reveals itself as you drive down the mountain road. The road to Keem Beach actually ends there so there is no going any further unless you want to hike. From here, visitors would just turn back and head back to Keel Beach where all the action is. I was going the same when I came across a road which seems to lead further up. There was a sign which points to a Lough Acorrymore. It seems to be a lake up in the mountains and I guess it would be worth going there.

The road to Lough Acorrymore was quite rough. It wasn’t as nice as the road going to Keem Beach. This is probably understandable since Keem Beach is quite popular while Lough Acorrymore is not. Seems there are some water treatment facilities at Lough Acorrymore and this made me wonder if I am actually allowed to go there. There were hardly any vehicles going there and there were parts of the road which were so narrow that only one vehicle can pass through it. There were parts of the road where they have several pipes laid beside each other and it is can be a very jarring experience to drive over them.
