Liberty Square Gate 自由广场牌楼

Liberty Square 自由广场 is a large public plaza which contains an assembly of traditional Chinese buildings. Note worthy buildings here are the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial hall and the identical buildings which serve as the National Theater and the National Concert Hall. The two identical buildings are built in a traditional Chinese palace style and it is very reminiscent of the buildings found at the Forbidden City in Beijing. Liberty Square is known as the site for mass gatherings even political movements which led to the first democratic elections of the island. It is not a surprise to see this place named as the Liberty Square.

While the main sights to see here at the square are the buildings. Not to be outdone here are the gates which guard all but one of the four cardinal directions. The gate nearest the two buildings is the Liberty Square Gate 自由广场牌楼. The gate has a distinctive white color with blue roofing much like the walls which surround the square. While not a gate where it can actually keep out people, this is more of an archway which declares the name of the place. The writing on the arch itself recalls the style of a famous Chinese calligraphy artist Wang Xizhi.
