Notre Dame Church in Bordeaux

It seems that anywhere you go in Bordeaux, one would be rewarded with an interesting structure. This happened to me as I was randomly walking around the area of the Grand Theater of Bordeaux. I was surprised to run into this rather small church which goes by the generic name of Notre Dame Church. However, with what is lacks in names, it makes up for it in looks. The Notre Dame Church in Bordeaux is considered the most ornate Baroque church in Bordeaux. In my visit here in France, I don’t think I even seen a baroque style church. Most of the churches I have seen here were gothic or Romanesque. I would consider the baroque style to be one of the most beautiful styles.

Baroque architecture is usually characterized by over the top designs. And it is certainly very prominent in the bacade of this church. Almost every square inch of the facade has been turned into a work of art. It seems there was an old Dominican monastery here but now all that remains is the church. The church itself isn’t even that old either. It seemed to have been built in the 1600s. I wasn’t sure if this church is still used for religious services since there didn’t seem to be some schedule available. There is the cathedral not too far away from here and that might have been used in favor of this church in recent years.
