Walking Around the Cloister at the Collegiate Church of Saint Salvi in Albi

I was pleasantly surprised to run into what is probably the final heritage site here in Albi and that is the Collegiate Church of Saint Salvi. I wasn’t really looking for this church in particular but just happened to see the church steps as I was exploring the Albi town center. The church itself wasn’t that special since most of the church tend to look alike now. The only thing which probably separates it from the other churches I have seen so sar are the polychrome figures which can be seen just as you enter the church. What I didn’t know was that there was another part of the church which is outside.

It seems that the church also has a cloister. There is a simple enclosed garden where presumably priests can walk and contemplate. This is a freshing oasis in the middle of a busy city like Albi. Indeed one would not have an idea that one is actually in the middle of town. The cloister has a path which leads out into the street, so it is not really that isolated. Still, it is a pleasant surprise to see this after seeing the fortress-like cathedral not too far away from here.
