The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Cecilia in Albi is certainly a very impressive structure. It looks like a fortress from the outside but inside it turns into one of the most impressive gothic churches one may see. Probably to add to the mystery of the cathedral, it wasn’t very easy to see these interiors since it was quite dark inside. There are windows to let the light in but it was raining outside so it was difficult to illuminate the cathedral. There are various places to appreciate this amazing piece of architecture but I think one of the most important features of this cathedral is the mural towards the front.

As one looks towards the altar area, one would notice two massive columns which have a mural painted on it. The scene depicts the last judgement, on the left are the saved and the on the right are the damned. Personally, the scene is a rather horrifying thing to see in church. Perhaps it is to underscore the importance of repentance and how important it is to come back to God. The mural is just a tool to emphasize that point. While there are lights which illuminate the mural, it was likewise difficult to see parts which are furthest from the lights. Maybe it would be better for me to visit this place when the lights are on.
