Going to Pont du Gard

Going to Pont du Gard

It was still early in the morning when I arrived at Avignon. I couldn’t check in the hotel where I would be staying since check in time is still in the afternoon. This gives me a change to explore the surrounding area of Avignon. There are a couple of UNESCO World Heritage sites around Avignon and I intend to visit them before checking in. My first stop would be Pont du Gard. Now, there are no trains going to Pont du Gard. To get there I would need to take the bus which travels between cities. It happens to pass somewhat near Pont du Gard so I think that was worth a shot.

I didn’t realize that Pont du Gard was in a relatively remote location since we have left the city and there weren’t a lot of houses along the way. I talked to the driver to confirm that this was going to Pont du Gard. Apparently, he was Albanian and he seemed to be a very chatty fellow. His English was good enough for me to understand and at least I was speaking to someone. It seems that he is enjoying life in France. I was hoping to see some of the French countryside which I would see online but there wasn’t anything of the sort. I was told to get off at a roundabout where I would start walking to Pont du Gard. There were signs to the the site so I wasn’t that worried.
